Christopher Lantz was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA in 1936 where his parents were both artists. He composed his first symphony at the age of sixteen under the tutelage of Milton Babbitt. This symphony was then performed for Igor Stravinsky when Christopher was only nineteen. By the time he was twenty-three he had conducted his own compositions with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Lantz holds a Ph.D. in Acoustical Physics and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Stanford University. He has composed and conducted both his own and other contemporary music throughout the U.S. and Europe. He is also known for his work in the visual arts and in the last twenty years has focused on the visual aspects of his work. He has created hundreds of performable "Art Scores" as well as other paintings that retain the music that has always surrounded him. For Christopher, music and color are interchangeable. Dr. Lantz also built the extraordinary House of Symphonies, by himself, over a period of three of these years. He believes that creativity is part of everyone's All and Everything, and that everyone should have a way to access the own creative and visionary experiences. He believes that art and music provide a way to touch the data pieces from which our lives, world views and cultures are created and can be changed. Christopher Lantz now lives and paints on a high mesa in northern New Mexico where he and his family also continue work on musical languages, sound and perception. |
